We all know Dwayne Wade is one of the most stylish athletes right below Amare Stoudemire and now he is taking his appeal to the next level by openly wearing nail polish. This is not the first time a male athlete has worn nail polish, Dennis Rodman was always known for pushing the boundaries of his manhood, however it seems a bit odd to me that Dwayne Wade or any man for that matter would wear colored nail polish. I’m sure we all remember J. Crew director Jenna Lyons who caught a lot of flack for painting her toddler’s toes bright pink, and yes he was a boy, and Mehcad Brooks who rocking a black manicure. Seal, Johnny Depp and a number of other famous men can and/or have been seen wearing nail polish so why is it such a big deal when Dwayne Wade does it? at least it’s a masculine color. This all started because Dwayne tweeted a picture of his black toe nails with the caption “Matte black paint… Rockstar ish…” Dwayne was quoted in the 2011 issue of GQ magazine as saying “three years ago I was like ‘Man, I kind of want to paint my toe nails black.’ At first I though ‘Nah, I can’t do that. They’re going to kill me.’ But eventually I decided to try it.” I honestly don’t think a regular guy could pull this off in real life without a member of the opposite sex thinking he was playing for the other team, I also think even with his status, Dwayne Wade probably is the butt of some of his male friends jokes. I honestly would not feel comfortable if my significant other wore nail polish so I wonder what Gabrielle thinks?What would you think if your man came home with a colored manicure? (414)
