Is There Too Much Violence In Reality TV?

I am a huge fan of reality TV, I have a show for almost everyday of the week, however when I watched Basketball Wives on Tuesday I was very disappointed. Tami, who we all know as the resident mean girl, decided to let Kesha, who is very timid, have it on Monday nights episode.  Tami, who had one too many drinks and prides herself on “keeping it real” was upset that she heard that Kesha said that she wanted to go off on her and preceded to act like the lame-brained person we all  know and have started to dislike. Mind you Tami is in anger management due to an incident last year with old cast mate Meeka Claxton. I’m surprised that as old as these women are they are acting like mindless teenagers who don’t know how to disagree and keep it moving.  Catch more after the jump…I understand that violence does equal profit in reality TV especially with the success of such shows as Basketball Wives and The Bad Girls Club, but is looking like a complete fool really worth getting 15 minutes of fame? These are middle aged women who need to have a seat and get some class. I think that the public is starting to take note because important sponsors like, Summer’s Eve have reportedly pulled out of Basketball Wives and after Evelyn has thrown bottles, jumped over tables, and almost everything else on God’s green Earth, a petition has been started to boycott her upcoming show with fiance Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson entitled the “Ev & Ocho.” The horrible part is that these women have adult age children who are female, what type of example are they setting for them? That just because you have a difference of opinion or a fall out with a friend it’s OK to go at them every time they are in your presence? I think that this amount of violence also has an effect on society because some of us don’t know how to differentiate reality TV from actual reality; these women like Tami and Evelyn, make it seem like it’s OK to fight if you are angry because nothing will happen and you can get together the next day and laugh about what happen. In reality fighting can lead charges being pressed or retaliation. Violence and acting out is not trendy or cute and we as women need to learn to get a hold on our temper and rise above any amount of negativity.  I’m not saying I’m perfect and that I don’t get upset because I would lying if I did, however I am learning that every action has a consequence and that I need to start thinking before I act because we can’t take back something once it has already happened. There are reality TV shows, like The Braxtons or Lala’s Full Court Life that are very successful, but don’t exploit violence. I am very disappointed in Shaunie O’Neal for being in the clouds and allowing this to go on, but I understand that these women participating in foolery is putting more money in her pockets.  So I pose the question is there too much violence in reality TV?
