I’m sure by now we have all seen the infamous picture of this cute infant little girl with straight hair. My first thought was why would you do that to an infant and how? I’m wondering how she got her to sit still while she flat ironed her hair, but at four months was her texture that bad that you just had to straighten it? Or were you just bored and/or curious to see how your child would look? I think that she may have made the wrong the decision in straightening her hair because I think she is way to young to even have a hair style like that, I feel like the only reason why you should straighten a child’s hair is if she can keep it up and if she is 0ld enough to make the decision to have it straightened. I also feel like we need to encourage our daughters to love their natural hair, the media portrays long and straight hair as being what’s ideal and sexy when we should feel sexy with what we have naturally. There is nothing wrong with straight hair or weaves because I wear those styles from time to time myself, but we should let our children make those decisions for themselves when they reach a proper age, especially with relaxers because they not only change the texture of your hair, but they can be harmful to some people by causing breakage, sores, and/or burns. Babies are not dolls that we can experiment on and I think this mother seriously needs to think the next time she flat irons her daughters hair because it’s not necessary and if you don’t know how to do her hair, which I couldn’t imagine is the case, it’s 2012 use the internet to research infant haircare.
