Meteorologist Let Go From Job For Responding To Rude Facebook Comment About Her Natural Hair

In this day and time we must know the importance of social media etiquette, knowing how to conduct yourself when using sites like Twitter and Facebook are so important today because you never know who is watching you. Many employers are dissecting our tweets and our Facebook profiles when trying to narrow down their lists of applicants. Fellow naturalista and meteorologist for KTBS-TV in Shrevesport, LA, Rhonda Lee, found herself to be the target of an insulting Facebook post from a viewer and apparently her employer didn’t like the way she handled the situation.

Starting From Scratch: My Second Big Chop

My natural hair journey officially started September 9, 2011, but I wasn’t totally prepared for what would lye ahead with being natural. I know a lot of naturals end up doing multiple big chops whether it’s due to improper care, going back to relaxers, damage from color, etc., but I thought I would be different. Well, I was wrong and this is the story of why I had to do my second and hopefully final big chop. Continue reading “Starting From Scratch: My Second Big Chop” » (1095)

Mom Straightens Infant Daughters Hair

I’m sure by now we have all seen the infamous picture of this cute infant little girl with straight hair. My first thought was why would you do that to an infant and how? I’m wondering how she got her to sit still while she flat ironed her hair, but at four months was her texture that bad that you just had to straighten it? Or were you just bored and/or curious to see how your child would look? I think that she may have made the wrong the decision in straightening her hair because I think she is way to young to even have a hair style like that, I feel like the only reason why you should straighten a child’s hair is if she can keep it up and if she is 0ld enough to make the decision to have it straightened. I also feel like we need to encourage our daughters to love their natural hair, the media portrays long and straight hair as being what’s ideal and sexy when we should feel sexy with what we have naturally. There is nothing wrong with straight hair or weaves because I wear those styles from time to time myself, but we should let our children make those decisions for themselves when they reach a proper age, especially with relaxers because they not only change the texture of your hair, but they can be harmful to some people by causing breakage, sores, and/or burns. Babies are not dolls that we can experiment on and I think this mother seriously needs to think the next time she flat irons her daughters hair because it’s not necessary and if you don’t know how to do her hair, which I couldn’t imagine is the case, it’s 2012 use the internet to research infant haircare. Is Investing In Natural Hair ”Dumb Money?”

Author Kevin Roose recently wrote an article for New York Magazine called “Dumb Money: Exposing Silic0n Valley’s Stupidest Investments” in which he discussed ideas for business that he thought were truly a waste of time. He went on to make a statement in which he called out Naturally Curly, which is an online community for those with naturally curly and wavy hair, I like many naturals have probably visited this site a thousand times, but Roose thinks it’s a worthless creation. Roose stated: Some tech’s clunkers never get off the ground, but others manage to get big, high-profile investments despite having no redeeming qualities whatsoever. (For example, what kind of genius decided to throw $1.2 million at NaturallyCurly, the “leading social network and community for people with wavy, curly, and kinky hair?”) When I read this comment I couldn’t believe that someone who have such an opinion on something they probably know nothing about.
